Textual Cbr and Information Retrieval { a Comparison {

چکیده
In recent years, quite a number of projects started to apply case-based reasoning technology to textual documents instead of highly structured cases. For this the term Textual CBR has been coined. In this paper, we give an overview over the main ideas of Textual CBR and compare it with Information Retrieval techniques. We also present some preliminary results obtained from three projects performed which further demonstrate major advantages of Tex-tual CBR.

Knowledge Sources for Textual CBR Applications
Textual CBR applications address issues that have traditionally been dealt with in the Information Retrieval community, namely the handling of textual documents. As CBR is a knowledge-based technique, the question arises where items of knowledge may come from and how they might contribute to the implementation of a Textual CBR system. In this paper, we will show how various pieces of knowledge ...
متن کاملDeveloping Mapping and Evaluation Techniques for Textual Case-Based Reasoning
Textual Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) is not simply Information Retrieval (IR) of text documents which happen also to be cases. Nor does it involve only techniques for automatically determining what cases represented as texts are about or techniques for automatically indexing such cases under relevant features. Textual CBR is still case-based reasoning, and for us, that means drawing inferences ab...
متن کاملQuestion Answering with Textual CBR
In this paper, we show how case-based reasoning (CBR) techniques can be applied to document retrieval. The fundamental idea is to automatically convert textual documents into appropriate case representations and use these to retrieve relevant documents in a problem situation. In contrast to Information Retrieval techniques, we assume that a Textual CBR system focuses on a particular domain and ...
متن کاملCbr Textuality
Current textual CBR research focuses on generating knowledge-rich representations for working with document-cases. However, there are many \weakly-textual" contexts in which textual information plays an important , but ancillary role in case composition and reasoning. For retrieving weakly-textual \semi-structured" cases that contain one or more textual features, it is desirable to measure the ...
متن کاملProgress in Textual Case-Based Reasoning: Predicting the Outcome of Legal Cases from Text
This paper reports on a project that explored reasoning with textual cases in the context of legal reasoning. The work is anchored in both Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) and AI and Law. It introduces the SMILE+IBP framework that generates a case-based analysis and prediction of the outcome of a legal case given a brief textual summary of the case facts. The focal research question in this work was ...
